Experience gained in freezing offshore area
We deployed two units (model: BA-FLS-NX5) of FLS in the southwest offshore area of Dandong, where is located the north of China, Liaoning Province in 2022.
After a full winter, in February 2023, we carried out an on-site inspection as planned and found that both the appearance and structure of the FLS were normal, except for a small amount of snow on the buoy.
Our technicians have extracted and analyzed the raw data from the devices during the winter period from 28 November, 2022 to 10 February , 2023, showing all the buoy data is normal. The relevant data analysis is as follows:
Environment
During the period, the lowest temperature in the sea area of the project site reached - 21 ℃, the highest temperature was only 8 ℃and the daily average temperature was around - 9 ℃, making the climate relatively cold.
System voltage
As the project site is in a freezing offshore area and does not have much sun light, in addition to solar panels and 2 small wind turbines, we have also applied 2 remote controlled fuel cells. During the winter, the voltage of the two units were both above 24V for more than 90% of the time, indicating a very robust power supply system.
Wind speed
The measured wind speed has a good consistency (the measurement height is slightly different) as a short distance between these 2 units. It shows that the average wind speed of the two projects are in a high correlation.
Data availability
During the winter months, the data availability of these 2 projects for all heights were greater than 98.4%, with a maximum of 100% and an average data availability of 99.7%, far exceeding the customer's requirements.
After the challenge of extreme cold, ice floes, rain and snow, all subsystems of the FLS were normal, and the data availability is far exceeding the requirements. It shows that our FLS model BA-FLS-NX5 is suitable for the cold sea conditions in northern China and we gained very valuable experience of the application practice in cold sea.
