The Proven Performance on Upgraded Collision Protection for BA-FLS-NX5

On April 2nd, Blue Aspirations' BA-FLS-NX5 floating LiDAR system was slammed by a large fishing vessel during routine offshore measurements. Despite the severe collision, the system exhibited outstanding resilience, owing to its advanced multi-layer protective structure and comprehensive redundant design.

Compared to the collision that occurred in the year 2022, our structure has been upgraded with double protection rings supported by more decussate steel frames based on the Hierarchy of Controls proposed by NIOSH. Therefore, the incident resulted in only minor damages, specifically bent protection rings and one compromised micro-meteorological station.

Analysis of the system's motion data during the collision shown in Figure 2 and 3, particularly the 15-minute windows before and after the collision, revealed a pronounced spike in vibrations at the moment of collision. Remarkably, the system quickly returned to stability, with the maximum tilt angle not exceeding 20 degrees, highlighting its superior stability engineering.

As depicted in Figures 4, 5, and 6, the floating LiDAR system maintained stable operations from April 1st to May 15th, 2024, even post-collision. The data availability remained 100%, and the system voltage consistently remained above 25V, significantly higher than the 23.5V safety threshold.

This incident underscores Blue Aspirations' commitment to highly reliable and robust offshore measurement solutions. Blue Aspirations remains dedicated to continuous innovation and improvement.
